Future firefighters invited to Droitwich open day
5:00pm Tuesday 26th February 2013 in Local
SPA teenagers are being invited to an open day to discover more about becoming a young firefighter.
Children aged between 13 and 17 can visit Droitwich Fire Station, Friar Street, on Wednesday, March 6 between 7 and 8.30pm.
Joining the Young Firefighters Association (YFA) presents a fantastic opportunity for young people. It gives them a chance to learn new skills, face new challenges and build self-confidence. Just as importantly, it gives them chance to stand out from the crowd in the future as they complete their CVs, job applications or personal statements for college or university.
Sue Taylor, from the Droitwich branch of the Young Firefighters Association, said: “Those attending the open evening will have chance to find out more about the training and the range of activities young people can get involved in with the YFA. There will also be existing young firefighters on hand at the event to share their experiences.”
Those joining will undergo a 13-week training programme before taking part in a passing out parade in front of their families and senior fire officers. Young firefighters can then start learning more complex fire drills and take part in community events alongside regular firefighters.
She added: “Droitwich Young Firefighters meet each Wednesday evening between 7pm – 9pm at Droitwich Fire Station and although the focus is on training and learning new skills, it’s also a great opportunity to make new friends and have a lot of fun.”
Anyone interested in joining the group is welcome to attend with their parents or guardians to find out more and complete an application form.
