DROITWICH Spa Marina is set to host an open day on Saturday, April 27.

The marina, which launched last spring, is opening its gates to the public and fellow boaters to show how much has been achieved by the family-run business.

The facility, which saw the first boats arrive in March 2012, can already boast to have secured over half of the 238 moorings available.

Located just off Junction 5 of the M5, it is ideally situated to commute north or south of the country, whilst still being rural enough to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Worcestershire. It is within walking distance of Droitwich Spa.

The open day will run from 10am - 4pm and will give visitors the chance to talk with staff and explore the facilities.

The site has received support and interest from the community and narrowboat owners across the country.

“We are delighted to welcome boaters into our new marina, everyone involved has worked hard to transform this field into a marina, in just seven months,” said director Nick Parkes. “We are enjoying meeting boaters from up and down the country and are pleased to be over half full after only being open for 12 months.”

The completion of the marina created a new chapter in the history of Droitwich Spa’s canal network as it looked to take advantage of a £12 million restoration project.
