RESIDENTS are being urged to be on their guard against aggressive, high pressure salespeople who are trying to get them to buy security alarms.

Officers from Worcestershire Regulatory Services have issued advice to help residents deal with cold callers. People are being told not to invite a salesperson into their home, not to sign any paperwork produced during a cold call and to make it clear they are not interested.

Residents are also being reminded that there is a seven-day cooling off period if a contract has been signed.

Steve Jorden, from Worcestershire Regulatory Services, said: “In the past we have heard of rogue alarm companies scaring residents with crime statistics and claiming they were at risk of burglary. Consumers who have security needs should use recommended companies.”
