Town centre paths are focus of clean-up operation

THE footpaths in Droitwich town centre have been jet washed during a six-week clean-up operation.

The deep clean, carried out by FCC Environment workers for Wychavon District Council, involved brightening up dirty flag stones and paving and tackling issues such as the removal of chewing gum.

Councillor Emma Stokes, board member for the environment and contracted service, said: “We’re pleased to be able to offer this deep cleaning service, but if people could use litter bins especially for waste like gum, local authorities could save £150 million every year. That’s how much it is estimated to cost to clear up gum every year nationally. In the recent clean streets awards gum was the only area they said we could improve on, so together we can do something about it.”

Over the coming weeks similar cleaning sessions are planned for Evesham and Pershore.
