SIR – Vexed about Worcester’s petrol prices?

I am sure Mr [Robin] Walker knows about the strategy of differential pricing but it may not be familiar to some Worcester News readers.

It involves selling the same product to different customers at different prices and is a mainstream market practice.

It is not meant to be fair to customers, it is meant to maximise profit.

It means that nothing is too expensive, just that many of us can’t afford it at the offered price.

The practice would have been frowned upon in the old Soviet Union but not in our economic system where it has been part of supply and demand for years.

I’m afraid it would be unwise to hold your breath waiting for the Government to intervene in petrol pricing across the country.
