SIR – The words “…the NHS kills off 130,000 elderly patients every year”, are taken form a Daily Mail article its June 20 issue.

Those words are absolutely inflammatory, but I found that ‘fact’ chilling.

What is now called the Liverpool Care Pathway was developed with the intention of making the last days and hours of cancer sufferers as decent as possible.

It was approved by National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence as a recommended practice in 2004.

Its use has spread from cancer sufferers to all patients.

And we all know what happened to practices that become routine… I think it’s time we asked a lot of questions of those who are supposed to manage our affairs, hence my letter.
