Hanbury WI
UNUSUALLY, our president and vice-president were both away, so our March meeting was chaired by our secretary, Marion, who welcomed our members and read the minutes.
Jill and Catherine volunteered to look at the 2008 WI resolutions for us and lead a full discussion at a later date.
Marion read a letter from the cookery judge at our November cookery and craft show, which had some interesting hints and tips for us.
We were pleased to hear that the Bowbrook News had a new editor so was able to continue.
Julie and Clare went to the Chateau Impney earlier in the month with Stoke Prior WI and spent a lovely afternoon learning about the history of the chateau and enjoying afternoon tea.
The draw took place for the skittles match on April 16 and a walk meeting was arranged for April 24. Our speaker for the evening was Andrew Harris, who presented a very interesting talk and slide show about the history of Hanbury and the Vernons of Hanbury Hall. We learnt many interesting facts about Hanbury and its hall.
He concentrated mainly on the 18th century telling us about Thomas Vernon, a wealthy lawyer, who built the hall and Henry Cecil and Emma Vernon, who led very interesting lives.
Jill gave a well deserved vote of thanks for a very informative evening.
The competition, a favourite picture of Hanbury, was won by Angela.
