A darts scheme, which aims to keep teenagers off the streets, has been hailed as a success.

The group, which has just found a new home at Westlands Community Hall, has seen numbers soar to more than 70 youngsters.

Organiser Alex Philpott runs darts lessons and tournaments for teenagers in their spare time. He hopes that the new venue will help attract even more teens from the town's Westlands estate.

The group first started last year from the function room in the Gardeners Arms pub in Vines Lane.

"The number of people who come to the group has risen from twenty to seventy over the last year," said Alex.

"Hopefully the new venue will attract even more people. Some of the youngsters have even entered a competition in Worcester."

Professional darts player Dave Honey has supported the town scheme since it started and has now donated 150 of his trophies to the group.

They will now be used to give to the teenagers when a tournament is held later this year.

"We would like to say a big thank you to Dave Honey. He has been very supportive and a big help," added Alex.

Anyone interested in the group should contact Alex Philpott on 07899803479.
