‘Locked’ away?
JUST what is happening with the canals reopening in Droitwich?
Only two weeks ago we saw Wychavon's Pershore councillor, Malcolm Meikle, receiving an award for getting Droitwich Canals open.
Every local election we see one district councillor or another from our Spa pictured by locks or on bridges telling us they will be open soon.
Last April our MP, Peter Luff, was prominent on television and in papers unveiling the Wych Barge as a start of actual construction. All too often in recent years we read the plans had been passed and money given to start work immediately.
Now we read there is no funding and this scheme may be scrapped. It seems our councillors and MP have grabbed great glory on the issue without actually doing anything.
What happened to the canals money? Is it doing anything? Is it already paid into Wychavon's accounts? Why did planners pass plans for dockland apartments with no canal to build them by? Is it a scam to sell off public land to developers?
Should a rapidly sinking Wych Barge be re-named the Dry-dock Gravy Boat'?
