Parking passes
THE reaction to the imposition of a £30 pensioners' parking pass in Bromsgrove is justified but this proposal compares very favourably with the attitude of Wychavon District Council.
When I returned to Droitwich in 2000 I received parking tickets value £15.60 per annum. My wife also received a similar amount when she reached the age of 60. The charge at that time was 10p per hour, with no increase in the £16.60. Later the parking fee went up to 30p per hour and pensioners' tickets were withdrawn.
I now see that the parking fee is to be increased from 50p per hour to 70p from March 31. This means that in seven years my parking costs will have increased from nil for six visits per week to £4.20 per week. How much better off are the pensioners of Bromsgrove?
