Tackle speed

WHILE it is great to see the Highways Agency improving road surfaces around Droitwich, this 'dash to spend cash' before the end of March is not part of a joined up highways strategy and is potentially creating new public safety issues.

Putting it simply, in a town like Droitwich where there is little active speed management (30mph signs at either end of the town is totally inadequate), the simple equation is improved roads =increased speed= increased danger=potential fatalities'.

Now, speeding drivers round the town is nothing new, and for once I will not rant on about the teenage joy riders'. My concern is more about, the commuters, heading to and from the M5, through our road network, with absolutely no regard for those not in the selfish shell of 'my metal fortress'. We are basically a residential town, and as such should be enjoying the relative peace and safety of a 30mph zone across the majority of the Spa.

As a resident of The Holloway for 14 years, and an early morning dog walker, I am pretty well placed to observe the huge increase in traffic, noise and potential danger along a typical motorway cut through' especially during commuting hours at both ends of the day.
