Worcestershire County Council's Archive and Archaeology Service is inviting everyone who is interested to explore our past, to a 'Behind the scenes' tour around the archive and archaeology areas.

The event will take place on Monday, July 29, from 2pm to 3.30pm in Worcester's famous library and History Centre 'The Hive' on the 'Explore the Past floor' which is on level 2.

Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service stores over 12 miles of archives relating to the county, including treasures such as William Shakespeare's marriage bond, a letter written on board the Titanic and the visitor book signed by Her Majesty the Queen during her visit to the Hive in July 2012.

This tour will provide an opportunity for people to see areas not usually open to the public including the specially designed strong rooms and the archaeology workrooms where finds from excavations across the county and beyond are processed. People will have the chance to handle Roman pottery as well as watch the conservator at work.

Su Vale, Outreach Assistant, Worcestershire Archive & Archaeology Service, said: "We have been offering 'behind the scenes' tours to local groups for several months and the feedback has been very positive. We wanted to give more people the chance to find out about the work of the service that you don't normally see, as well as the opportunity to see some of our treasures."

Places are limited and need to be booked and cost £4 each.
