A TRIO of Kidderminster brothers who run a communications firm have taken a radical new direction by renovating and reopening a village pub and restaurant.

Robin, Andy and Chris Conway, are realising a long-held ambition to run their own pub by taking over the Crown based in Martley village, Malvern Hills.

The brothers, who set up ARCC Communications in Hartlebury eight years ago, have made a six figure capital investment in the project and have created around 15 full and part time new jobs.

Its grand reopening will take place on Saturday (August 20) and is the culmination of three months’ work after refurbishment of both the interior and exterior started in May.

The pub, previously known as the Crown in Martley, will be run as an American smokehouse style venue but with a British twist serving a range of ales and dishes in its restaurant.

Robin, aged 30, said: “We have always said we would love to take over a restaurant as we are passionate about good food and drink.

“It is a diverse move for us when you consider what we currently do. But we hope it could be the start of something.

“The Crown became available, it is in a good central location and we saw it as a chance to realise a bit of a dream.

“The pub has been closed for some time. It is in a small village but we hope to turn it into something of a hub for the community.

“The Crown will be a bespoke English smokery. We are putting a lot into the brand and our ethos is to use local suppliers for our ingredients. For example we will be looking to procure meat from within six miles.”

Robin and his brother Andy, aged 34, started their mobile phone network building firm ARCC in 2008 with just one van. Their 36-year-old brother Chris also came on board and the company has grown and now employs 60 people with a fleet of 18 vans.
