TWO teenage boys were injured and taken to hospital following a road collision involving a fire engine, responding to an emergency call, and a people carrier.

The incident happened at around 8.30am this morning, (February 22), at the junction of The Crescent, College Road and New Road.

A fire crew from Redditch was called to the incident joining a Bromsgrove crew, paramedics and police.

The pair were inside the Red Toyota people carrier during the collision, and the roof was removed to release one of the boys, a 15-year-old.

He was complaining of chest and neck pain and, after the teenager was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar, he was taken to the Alexandra Hospital.

The second boy, also aged 15, had cuts to his face and was also taken to the hospital.

The driver of the people carrier, another teenage boy, and the crew from the fire engine were not hurt.

The fire engine involved in the collision, which was responding to an emergency call at the time, sustained only minor damage.

Jon Pryce, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s area commander, said: “The service treats all such incidents with the utmost seriousness and will be carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

“In the meantime, we would like to wish the boys involved a full and speedy recovery.”

Motorists were delayed after the incident, which happened in the busy rush hour, as the area was cordoned off. Vehicles heading from the Bromsgrove Highway were forced to do a U-turn in New Road, while others motorists were diverted around the town centre.
