BAGGIES fans from an online community group held a meet-up in Hagley to raise thousands of pounds in memory of their hero Jeff Astle.

West Bromwich Albion fans from Facebook group 'The REAListic WEST BROM SUPPORTers' held their event at The Station Inn pub in Hagley on June 9.

One of the members is Dawn, daughter of Baggies legend Jeff Astle, which prompted the group to dedicate their first fundraiser to The Jeff Astle Foundation.

Pub manager Michelle Cromwell said: “After four months of hard work it was amazing to see this event take off and raise such a remarkable amount of money for the foundation.

"Everyone had a brilliant time and we’ve even been asked when the next one is taking place!

"It just goes to show that when fans and a close community come together we really can make a remarkable difference.”

Dawn, her mum Laraine, Stourbridge FC boss Garry Hackett, and ex-Baggies striker Bob Taylor all turned up for the fundraiser.

The event included a raffle with prizes such as a signed West Brom football, two signed t-shirts, and hampers, while band Wounded Spirit also performed.

Money raised will be donated to The Jeff Astle Foundation, which was launched by the family of former footballer Jeff Astle in April 2015 to highlight issues around head injury in sport, following his death from chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
