A COUPLE from Bromsgrove celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary by retracing the steps they took on their honeymoon 60 years ago.

Barrie and Pat Day first met in the 1950s, when they both worked on Bromsgrove's high street.

Barrie, now 82, told the Advertiser: "I worked in men's tailoring in Co-op and Pat was a hairdresser at Sadie's Ladies Hairdressing.

"we used to bid each other good morning and then Pat asked me to her 16th birthday party. We've been together ever since."

The pair got engaged in 1955 at the Chateau Impney, before marrying on October 19, 1957, at St Mark's Church in Fairfield, followed by a reception at Marlbrook's Golden Cross Hotel.

Pat, now 80, continued to work in hairdressing as Barrie pusued a career in the steel industry, while also raising their son Keith, who gave them a granddaughter 17 years ago.

The Days marked their 60th wedding anniversary by returning to the Isle of Wight where they honeymooned.

Barrie said: "We've just returned from retracing our honeymoon steps, which was a gift from our son, his wife, my sister and brother-in-law."

They plan to hold an anniversary meal with family and friends at a later date.

Asked the secret to a successful marriage, Pat said: "Give and take and look after each other. Keep smiling and laugh a lot.

"We have a lovely family and we're very family orientated. We all help one another and just enjoy family life."
