COUNTY council bosses say Bromsgrove's roads are 'some of the best in the country', as they reach the final stage of their Driving Home road improvements scheme.

More than 90 miles of road have been repaired or resurfaced across Worcestershire since the programme's launch in April 2016, including several across Bromsgrove.

Ryefields Road in Stoke Prior was resurfaced in December, with one Stoke Prior First School parent describing the road as 'far smoother' and safer for children to cross.

Two thirds of the scheduled works have now been completed, in response to data collected about road conditions and talks with local residents.

Cllr Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member with responsibility for Highways, said: "Residents in Worcestershire told us about the conditions of their roads, and we have listened. We're investing £12m over a two-year period to improve the roads that matter the most to our residents - those closest to their homes.

"The programme has made a huge difference to almost 20,000 residents across the county so far whose homes have benefitted from the work the Driving Home programme is completing on local roads.

"The overall aim is to improve 150 miles of local roads and, with 93 miles already completed, we are on track to achieve this and the team is doing a fantastic job, all year round."

Bromsgrove's Linthurst Road is among several others set for improvements in the scheme's second year.
