BUDDING actors at a Bromsgrove stage school are embarking on a new adventure, as their principal of 17 years hands over the reigns.

James Suckling passed ownership of Stagecoach to Leah Alcock at an emotional handover ceremony on Sunday, June 11.

The principal decided to sell the franchise due to his age and full-time work commitments.

"This was not an easy decision to make," said James. "I spent some considerable time talking to people from the profession before I decided to hand over the reigns to Leah.

"She has worked for Stagecoach for over ten years and currently also works as a performing arts teacher at a school in Redditch.

"I know her passion for the performing arts will help create an even stronger Stagecoach school in Bromsgrove.”

Student Shannon Mangan, who has been a member of Stagecoach for 12 years, presented James with a special 17-year medal, similar to those awarded to students after each full years of attendance.

New owner Leah plans to introduce more performance opportunities and launch school holiday workshops. These start this summer, running from July 31 to August 4.

She said: "I am passionate about how the performing arts can help a child to develop confidence. I’ve dreamt about being a principal for many years and this is an exciting new adventure for me and my team.”

Classes take place on Sunday mornings at St John's Middle School. For more information call 01527 868636 or email bromsgrove@stagecoach.co.uk.
