A TEAM of car enthusiasts from Bromsgrove will drive 3,000 miles across Europe in a couple of 'old bangers' to raise money for charity.

Andy Swan and five of his friends will be taking part in their 4th Banger Italia, a low-budget rally which will see them drive through France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland in two £400 Jaguars.

Andy said: "We’ve decided to do this challenge for the 4th year as we have thoroughly enjoyed the last three and raised over £7,000 for charity.

"We have decided for the 3rd year running to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. This is a charity that's very close to all of the team member’s hearts having lost family members to Dementia.

"This charity needs all the funding they can get to find a cure against this cruel disease. All costs for the trip and car come out of our pockets, so 100 per cent of the money goes directly to Alzheimer’s Society."

On Wednesday, July 26, 60 teams from across the country will depart from Calais following a 'Show and Shine' competition and head for Rimini.

Landmarks along the way will include the German autobahns, the Stelvio Pass in Italy and the Porsche and Bugatti museums.

Emma Dowler, community fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society said: “Thank you so much to Andy Swan and his fantastic team of drivers. We are so grateful for their continued support of Alzheimer’s Society, helping to raise vital funds for people living with dementia.

"The money raised will help us provide care and support for people living with dementia and allow us to fund research for a cure for tomorrow. Our services give them opportunities to be active in their own communities and to live well with dementia."
