AS part of the annual "Wear a Hat Day" people are being urged to have some fun and raise some vital cash for charity.
The national day, held on March 31, raises awareness and much needed funds for Brain Tumour Research which is striving to fund a network of seven dedicated research centres while challenging the government and larger cancer charities to invest more in brain tumour research.
A special event is being held in Alvechurch by the parents of Finlay Church, an Alvechurch boy who raised thousands for charity before he died from a brain tumour.
Finlay, who broke a Guinness World Record, raised more than £90,000 for charity, and was crowned Child of Courage at the Pride of Birmingham Awards 2015, died in November 2015, 17 months after he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) brain tumour.
He was just 11 years old.
Writing on facebook, his parents Wayne and Penny, said: "As part of our commitment to Fin, and other people and families facing a brain tumour diagnosis, this year we are holding a fundraising event at Alvechurch Cricket Club on the evening of Friday, March 31 from 7pm to 11pm.
"We would love you to join us, wearing a funny, fabulous or flamboyant hat - there will obviously be a best hat competition. There will be drinks and music. Fundraising fun and frolics.
"We are also holding a raffle and each ticket sold will automatically give you one raffle ticket per person to enter the draw, which will be held on the night."
Ticket price for the evening is £3 per person or £10 for a family ticket.
