BROMSGROVE school children have created a piece of eye-catching artwork to brighten up the building site of the town's newest care home.

Students from St John's C of E Middle School Academy were invited by Care UK to get creative and decorate the construction site for their homes on Recreation Road.

Year 5 and 6 pupils each drew a picture of someone they care about, and visited the £6.7 million site to see their drawings on display along the hoardings.

Jude Davenport, head of art and design at the school, said: “We were thrilled when Care UK asked us to be part of their exciting new venture here in Bromsgrove.

“The children had a great time creating the artwork and love seeing it on display on their walk to school each day.”

Andrew Brett, construction project manager for Care UK, added: “We are new to the area so what better way to introduce ourselves to the local community than by collaborating with St John's School on a lovely art project to brighten up our hoardings.

“We were delighted to welcome the children to the site to see their pictures displayed, and we look forward to building on our new relationship with the school in the future.”

Stepnell contracts manager David Berry said: “The St John’s pupils came up with some impressive artwork and it’s great to have it on display on our hoardings.

“Getting involved with the local community is important to us and the construction team really enjoyed welcoming the children on to site to see their creations taking pride of place.”

The new four-storey care home, which is being developed by construction partner Stepnell, will feature 81 ensuite bedrooms.

It will also incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own cinema, hairdressing salon and cafe.

The site is expected to welcome its first residents in January 2018.
