BROMSGROVE television presenter Jamelia has reportedly been axed from her role on Loose Women following her controversial comments about plus-sized women.

The pop star, who lives in Barnt Green, has come under heavy criticism for comments made on the ITV show last April, which is thought to have landed her in hot water with her bosses.

Speaking on the show last year, she said plus-sized women should be "made to feel uncomfortable" about their size, adding high-street stores should not be catering for them.

She said in April: "I don’t believe stores should stock clothes below or above a certain weight. They should be made to feel uncomfortable when they go in and can’t find a size.

"I do not think it's right to facilitate people living an unhealthy lifestyle, in the same way I don't believe that a size zero should be available.

"It's not a healthy size for an average woman to be."

The 35-year-old drew criticism for her comments on social media, with one commenter claiming they had "lost all respect" for the mum-of-two as a result.

Responding at the time on Twitter, she said: "Never waste your time trying to explain, to people committed to misunderstanding you."

The ‘Superstar’ singer is currently working on other projects for ITV.

A spokesperson for ITV said: "Jamelia is currently working on other projects for ITV Daytime including some hair and beauty features for This Morning."
