A CHARITABLE 11-year-old from Hagley has raised more than £1,250 for a special cause after taking part in a cycling event in the nation's capital.

Jayni Makwana rode in the eight mile London Freecycle, which takes parts around the inner city's streets while they are closed off to traffic, in aid of The Encephalitis Society.

Her father, Dr Nick Makwana, said: "We are very proud of Jayni and think she is an amazing little girl. For someone who was not confident on a bike, to be able to cycle around London was a real achievement.

"The support from her family, friends and The Encephalitis Society made her more determined to complete the eight mile cycle ride which eventually led to 11 miles as we took a few wrong turns!

"She chose The Encephalitis Society to contribute to because I am a member of the society's professional panel responsible for steering clinical and research activities of the charity."

Jayni was able to raise just over £1,200 for the cause, and due to her fundraising has been honoured with the society's 'Junior Fundraiser Award' for her special efforts.

Dr Makwana added: "This experience has given Jayni the confidence to face any challenge in the future."
