TWO Bromsgrove poet laureates have embarked on a mission to try and unearth some poetic talent by launching a well versed evening of prize prose every month at the Artrix .

Entitled 'Licensed to Rhyme', the evenings have been devised by Worcestershire poet Maggie Doyle who has engaged the help of former Birmingham Poet Laureate Giovanni 'Spoz' Esposito .

The evenings will comprise of featured artists and a headline act. But there will also be an opportunity for locals to try their luck as plenty of open mic performances are planned.

Maggie said: "The idea behind Licensed to Rhyme ' is to get more youngsters involved. We've had lots of poets coming forward when we staged Speakeasy and we hope to do the same now.

"We welcome all styles of poetry and music, from rap to Shakespeare.

"We're very keen to give an outlet to younger people - but it's not just for the young 'uns, it's for all ages."

The opening Licensed to Rhyme takes place on on September 12 and features a rare performance from the Dreadlockalien.

Maggie added: "We're encouraging people to come and have a go. It should prove a great night of entertainment with spoken word and music.

"I've been delighted to get Spoz on board. We go back 12 to 14 years and it's great to join forces with him and we both thank the Artrix for their support."

Admission is free for under 18's and £5 for everyone else. Tickets are available from the Artrix office on 01527 577 330.
