CLENT Hills Vet Group in Bromsgrove is reminding animal-lovers to take precautions to keep their pets cool in this warm weather.

Owners are urged to keep their dogs hydrated, watch out for sunburn and never leave them in a car, even with the window open, to avoid them overheating.

If dogs display symptoms of heat stroke - collapsing, excessive panting or dribbling - owners are encouraged to take them to a cool place, wet their coat and contact a vet straight away.

Owners should also ensure their furry friends don't burn their paws on hot pavements while out for walks.

Rabbits and other small pets can also suffer in the heat, so owners are urged to keep them indoors - but not in the conservatory - during the hottest parts of the day.

Placing ice cubes in water bowls, or a cold damp towel in their cage, will also keep pets cool.
