A DIY store in Bromsgrove is celebrating after receiving a surprisingly good response to a campaign collecting old and unwanted tools to help disadvantaged people in the community.

The response far exceeded the expectations of staff at Broad Street DIY on Worcester Road, with approximately 1,500 items being handed in to crates placed outside the shop.

Donations saw everything from spanners and screwdrivers, to saws, hammers, and garden tools being given to the cause, as well as a number of power drills, and even two lawn mowers.

The tools have now all been donated to Bromsgrove based not-for-profit organisation NewStarts, which helps local families and individuals on low incomes or in financial crisis.

Marion Kenyon, chief executive at NewStarts, said: “We are overjoyed to receive the donation of tools that were collected by Broad Street DIY. Being able to do jobs around the home is important for everyone, but without the right tools it can be very difficult and not everyone is able to purchase them new. A big thank you to everyone who donated – we love to see local people helping local people.”
