STUDENTS from a Bromsgrove stage school are celebrating after passing exams in a number of different skills ranging from musical theatre, to individual acting skills.

31 children who all attend Stagecoach Theatre School in Bromsgrove, went up against an external examiner from Trinity College London to showcase their skills.

Each student had to put together a performance of pre-rehearsed material, before taking on a number of improvisation tasks and a brief interview from the examiner.

The children all came away successful, with 16 being awarded merits, and 12 gaining distinctions, which are the highest grades possible for the exams.

11-year-old Cameron Dews, managed to achieve the highest mark of all those who took part, with an impressive score of 93 per cent.

He said: “I was actually feeling poorly on the day of the exam but I didn’t want to miss it. I was really nervous when I first started at Stagecoach but I’m much more confident now and I love the classes.”

The exams can gain UCAS points for students, which could help them gain entry to higher education.

Bromsgrove Stagecoach principal James Suckling, added: “Children join Stagecoach for a variety of reasons, not just because they are dreaming of a career on the stage. Performance classes are a wonderful way to help develop greater self-confidence whilst improving methods of communication. We teach important skills for life.”

Stagecoach classes take place on Sunday mornings in Bromsgrove. For more information call 01926 651159.
