A STUDENT from North Bromsgrove High School with visual impairments, paid a visit recently to the National Breeding Centre for Guide Dogs for the Blind to present them with money raised by pupils at the school.
15-year-old Kane Liggitt designed and made Christmas cards, which were put on sale at the school to staff and students, raising £75 for the Guide Dogs.
He went along to the centre with three other students, where they got to see one-week-old puppies ready to be trained, and also had a chance to understand more about how people with visual impairments experience the world, by being blind-folded and using a stick to walk around corridors and stairs at the centre.
The students also walked through a dark tunnel wearing a blind fold, feeling the walls and floor for different things.
Kane said: "I really enjoyed meeting the guide dogs. It was great to meet the puppies and I liked sharing with my friends how it is to be visually impaired. If I need one I would like to have a guide dog when I am older."
Jin Masaun, a teaching assistant at North who accompanied the trip, added: "It was interesting to be able to experience what it is like to be visually impaired as it helped me to understand the challenges that Kane faces every day."
