THE jury in the Hillsborough inquests has found that the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the stadium disaster on April 15, 1989, including 26-year-old Bromsgrove man Andrew Brookes, were unlawfully killed.
In a huge vindication of the victims’ families and the fans present at the stadium who has been accused previously of adding to the disaster, the jury found that the incident was caused by failures from Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and police procedure on the day, and supporters did not contribute to the dangerous situation in any way.
A crush in the west terrace of the stadium led to the deaths of the 96 fans just before the kick-off for the semi-final match. The jury has now adjourned, but will return this afternoon. More to follow.
