MEMBERS of Bromsgrove's twinning association have enjoyed a visit to the town's German twin.

This year is the 35th anniversary of the twinning agreement between the Bromsgrove and Gronau towns.

Representatives from the Bromsgrove and District Twinning Association (BDTA) went out to the German town and enjoyed a varied programme of activities including visits to a new business enterprise sending hand-made chocolates to customers throughout the world, and to a synagogue in Enschede near Gronau described as the "most beautiful in the Netherlands".

Members also went to the Muziekkwartier - a new concert hall, opera house and conservatoire, and visited the famous Twentse Welle Museum on Enschede's Cultural Mile, which connects local and universal themes.

During the final evening a celebratory dinner was held with Trevor Porter, a former Bromsgrove District Council chairman and one of the original members of BDTA presented Gronau twinners with a ceramic plaque made by potter Liz Clarke commemorating the 35 years of twinning.

A crystal glass vase was also presented by Bromsgrove Twinning chairman, Roger Westbury, to the town of Gronau and in return Bromsgrove received a panoramic picture of Gronau which is set to go on display at Bromsgrove's new Parkside Council House.

Bromsgrove twinners are now preparing to welcome visitors from Bromsgrove's French twin town, St Sauveur Lendelin, in July.
