A BROMSGROVE man is set to take part in a marathon to honour the memory a much-loved friend who passed away.

Carl Corbett, aged 24, is running the 2015 London Marathon to support the charity Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The charity aims to improve the lives of people suffering from the disease by helping them to access high quality and specialist care.

His friend, Charlotte Gilliver, known as Charli, passed away on May,19 2013 from cystic fibrosis.

Carl said: “She was a good friend of mine. She was fighting cystic fibrosis since she was born, really, so my main reason is because she passed away.

“I want to raise the money to try to help people with it have a better life or prolong their life.

“I will do it no matter what, even if I have to walk it.”

To prepare himself for the marathon, Carl has taken part in several training exercises including taking part in half-marathons and swimming.

With help from his brother Stephen Corbett, Carl will host several events at the Ryland Centre in New Road, in the new year, including a charity zumbathon on Tuesday, February 17 and a zorbing tournament on Sunday, March 15.

For more information or to book tickets call the centre on 01527 575387 and ask for Stephen Corbett.

Carl currently works full time as manager at the Dolphin Centre in Bromsgrove and is training to be an accountant.

So far, Carl has raised more than £1,000 but aims to reach a target of £2,015. To donate visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/CarlCorbett.
