A BROMSGROVE runner put her best foot forward to raise cash for a charity helping people overseas.

Katie Burrows, an optician at Specsavers in Bromsgrove High Street, took part in the Birmingham Half Marathon on Sunday, October 19.

Katie took on the 13.1 mile challenge for the first time, raising money for the store's nominated charity Vision Aid Overseas.

The charity works to transform access to eyecare in developing countries, including supporting an optometry training centre in Zambia.

More than 20,000 runners took part in the event, which took in some iconic sights including the Bullring, the Cadbury's factory in Bournville and Edgbaston cricket ground.

The money collected will be added to Specsavers overall fundraising for the charity, which so far stands at more than £500,000.

Specsavers store director Mark Gibson said: "We are incredibly proud of Katie and her commitment to supporting our local charity partner.

"We hope that people dig deep to help support this cause that’s especially close to our hearts - 10 per cent of the world's population are disadvantaged by poor vision and a lack of spectacles."

There is still time to sponsor Katie by texting KBLP89, then the amount to 70070 or visit the Specsavers store at 131 High Street, Bromsgrove, B61 8AE.
