A FUNDRAISING race, held as part of Bromsgrove Carnival weekend, has again raised an impressive sum of money.

The Timberhonger 10K, and accompanying Children’s Challenge, is held on the Saturday evening of carnival weekend as part of the Carnival at Sanders Park.

This year it took place on July 12, and again proved very popular attracting more than 500 participants. Runners were even able to enjoy a special carnival ale produced by the local Birds Brewery.

All the money collected has now been added up and it was found that an impressive £3,000 had been raised.

This total is being split between the three chosen charities - the Primrose Hospice, The Basement Project, and the Friends of the Princess of Wales Community Hospital.

Race Director Mark Graham said: “We’re really pleased to be able to help these three Bromsgrove charities. I’ve seen the difference they are making to people in our community and it’s just brilliant.”

Mark visited the Aston Fields-based Primrose Hospice to hand over a cheque to chief executive Helen Garfield. During the visit he toured the hospice's new extension that will allow them to provide more day care facilities and bereavement support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Jackie Hooper and her team at the Basement Project will use their portion of the money to continue the project's work helping young people find accommodation and get back into employment.

The third cheque was presented to Kimara Sharpe from the Friends of the Princess of Wales Community Hospital, which plans to use the money to purchase essential medical equipment.
