AN opticians in Bromsgrove is asking the community to donate their spare glasses for a charity campaign.

Specsavers, in High Street, is collecting unwanted glasses to support Vision Aid Overseas, which aims to transform access to eye care in impoverished countries.

The collected specs are recycled in an environmentally-friendly way with the funds sent to the support the charity’s work in Zambia.

Store retail director Mark Gibson said: "Access to affordable eye care is something we take for granted in this country, but there are just a handful of qualified optometrists serving a 12 million population in Zambia.

"By collecting as many pairs of glasses as possible we hope to support training programmes and outreach clinics that could really make a difference for local people."

Specsavers nationally has been working with the charity, and have so far raised more than £300,000.
