VOLUNTEERS from a town housing association have teamed up with wildlife experts to improve a Droitwich beauty spot.

Staff from Festival Housing joined Andrew Parkes from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and workers from Vale Services to complete a summer-long project aimed at enhancing Bays Meadow.

Festival employees left behind their usual day jobs on Wednesday, October 17 to cut back weeds, clear pathways and sow wildflower seeds to improve access and support the site.

Cath Joyce, housing officer for Festival Housing said: “Staff and residents have been really enthusiastic about the various activities we’ve done over the summer, including litter picks and wildlife walks. We also built bird and bat boxes with local children which have now been erected around the estate and we’re really looking forward to seeing new wildlife in the area and the progress of the wildflower meadow.”

“We hope that this area will become a focal point on the estate and that it will continue to bring pleasure and enjoyment to the local residents for many years to come.”

The area around Bays Meadow is a site of historical importance as it is the original site of a Roman road and fort. Although there is housing in the area, much of the land cannot be built on and has been turned over to woodland.
