A CIVIC service was held in Droitwich Spa for the chairman of Wychavon District Council.

Councillor Richard Morris welcomed 230 guests to St Peter de Witton Church on Sunday, September 30.

Visitors included deputy Lord Lieutenant, Lady Susan Hughes, 14 local chairmen and mayors as well as representatives from many other organisations.

Father Doug Chaplin led the service at the historic church where Edward Winslow was baptized. Winslow sailed on the Mayflower as one of the Pilgrim Fathers and served three times as governor of the Plymouth colony and took the first domestic cattle to America.

St Peter’s School choir sang ‘Close every door to me’ from Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Guests were invited to the Chateau Impney Hotel where sea, air and army cadets put on displays to help publicise the chairman’s charities. Spa singing sensation Charlie Green also entertained the guests.

Coun Morris said: “I would like to thank everyone for supporting the civic service. It was a wonderful occasion.”
