A CAMPAIGN group is warning residents that time is running out to have their say on revised plans to develop the Yew Tree Hill area of Droitwich Spa.

Members of Save Our Green Open Space (SOGOS) are urging people to make their voices heard on amended plans for land north of Pulley Lane and Newland Lane.

Barberry Droitwich Ltd has put forward the amendments to Wychavon District Council for its outline planning application for Yew Tree Village scheme. It means residents have until Thursday, October 4 to give their views.

The amendments now feature fewer homes at the site, with 500 given as the number, and also include an indoor bowls facility.

However, action group members say they fear more houses will be added at a later date.

The plans still include an area that could be used to build a public house, restaurant or fast food takeaway facility and the proposal for a 200 bed care home still remains.

A spokesman for the group said: “SOGOS still feels passionately that any development of any size is inappropriate on Yew Tree Hill. We are particularly concerned that a satellite community would be created outside of the main town.

“SOGOS would like to see maximum utilisation and regeneration of the brownfield sites around Droitwich closer to the town centre, which would then help to support and sustain our current local businesses and reduce the environmental impact.”

Anyone wishing to know more about the campaign can visit saveyewtreehill.org.uk Neil Pearce, from Wychavon District Council, said: “The deadline is October 4 but we will still consider views after that date. I would just urge people to get them in as soon as they can so that we can read, digest and possibly act on them.

“The views given by people on the previous application will still be taken into consideration. People don’t need to resubmit their comment again just because the application has been amended.”

Martyn Cartwright, director at Barberry Developments, said: “The plans have not changed too much. The nature and character of the application is the same. The main thing that has changed is we have removed a bulk of housing, which will mean all impacts of the development are reduced.”
