RAIL commuters in Droitwich will be buying more tickets from machines after a cut in staffing hours got the government green light.

Passengers using the station, on Union Lane, will see the amount of time the ticket office is staffed cut by more than six hours over the course of the week.

Monday to Thursday it will open 20 minutes later at 7pm and close an hour earlier at 6pm.

On Friday it will open 20 minutes later at 7pm but stay open until the same time - 7pm.

On Saturday it opens 45 minutes later at 8pm but closes 20 minutes later then it does currently at 3pm.

The booth remains closed on Sundays.

Outside of these hours passengers will have to rely on automatic ticket machines at the station.

London Midland, which runs the station, got permission from the Department for Transport for the changes earlier this week

London Midland confirmed “assisted travel will be maintained” at its stations, with “senior conductors providing assistance to customers where no station staff are available at the start or end of a journey”.
