FIREFIGHTERS from Droitwich’s green watch are preparing for an oar-some challenge as part of this Saturday’s Salt Fest celebrations.

At the festival, which celebrates Droitwich’s historic links to salt production, the firefighters will be rowing a 42-mile distance on a machine that will be set up in St Andrew’s Square.

The distance is the equivalent of rowing the length of the English Channel and back again.

The members of the watch will be rowing in firefighting gear and wearing breathing apparatus sets, and are doing the challenge to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The charity helps those who have been wounded in Britain's current conflicts.

Watch commanders Michael James said: “We would welcome support from those who visit Salt Fest.

“We’ll also be on hand to give out advice on fire safety in the home and to see if anyone would benefit from a free home safety check.”

The static rower will be set up next to Lloyds bank this Saturday, September 15, between 10am and 4pm.

Anyone who wants to make a donation to the team’s charity row can do so by visiting its fund-raising website, bmycharity.com/greens26h4h.
