THE search for Worcestershire's Pop Icon 2012 is now on as the county council is calling for young vocalists or vocalist groups of four or less to sign up for auditions taking place across the county in October.

The competition is open to Worcestershire residents, aged between 12 and 18, who have the potential and ability on stage to impress the judges.

Regardless of how long people have been singing, they can attend an audition to gain an honest and professional opinion. Friends and family are all welcome for support and additional encouragement will be given from staff in order for people to perform at their best.

Just like the television shows, auditions will take place in front of a group of judges and those who impress will be whisked off to one of the boot camps where they will be put through their paces by a group of industry experts.

Practical advice and support will be available along the way and those who are successful will take part in the grand final on Friday, November 2 at the Artrix in Bromsgrove.

Steve Wilson, county arts officer for Worcestershire County Council, said: "Practise, perform and have fun. If you fancy being crowned the best singer in the county and you are confident and ready for some tough competition, then we'd love to hear from you.

“Just give us a call or apply online to come along to one of our audition dates taking place throughout October. Our friendly and supportive judges will with give you an honest and professional opinion in a fun environment.”

A local audition will take place at the Artrix in Bromsgrove on Saturday, October 6.
