MARK Wake has officially taken up his post as chief medical officer for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

He has joined from the Heart of England Foundation Trust where he has been working as associate medical director for the last few years while maintaining a busy clinical practice at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

His main interests are in the development of clinical leadership and he is very focused on improving quality and safety for patients.

He said: “My main aim is to develop the strong clinical culture we already have within the trust and to drive forward clinical safety and the high clinical standards we strive for.

“I understand that we are in a state of change, but by working with staff here at the Trust I hope to help move us towards a future of sustainable services for the people of Worcestershire.”

He takes over from Dr Charles Ashton, who has been medical director for the Trust for the last 12 years.
