OFFICERS arrested a burglary suspect after a police car chase came to a dramatic end in Droitwich Spa.

A man was arrested on suspicion of committing two Worcester burglaries following the pursuit yesterday on the A449.

Overnight from Wednesday, August 29 to Thursday, August 30 a grey BMW M3, an Apple laptop and a mobile phone were stolen during a burglary in Flag Meadow Walk in Arboretum.

At 5.30pm yesterday, officers spotted the BMW travelling from Kidderminster on the A449 towards Worcester. The car was pursued into Droitwich until it crashed at 5.50pm in Shepherd's Way on the Westlands estate and the two men inside made off from the vehicle.

A man in his 20s was arrested at 6.30pm in Ombersley Way, Droitwich, and is currently in custody at Worcester Police Station being interviewed by detectives. He has also been arrested for a burglary at the Grosvenor Arms pub in St John's on Monday, August 20 when a TV and some cash were stolen.

He is being questioned about a number of other burglaries in the city, including three St John's homes that were broken into on August 16 and 17 in Penhill Crescent and McIntyre Road.

Detective Inspector Richard Rees of Worcester CID said: "We believe this may be a significant arrest in our efforts against burglaries in Worcester and the man will be questioned about a range of offences.

"We are attempting to trace both men who were in the stolen BMW and I would like to ask for the public's help, in particular residents of Droitwich and the Westlands estate.

"If you saw a man on foot in the early evening yesterday, possibly trying to hitch a lift or hail a taxi, then please contact us. We were given a very distinctive description by witnesses of one of the men, who said he was white, wearing a dark grey tracksuit and had two black eyes and a cut to his nose."

DI Rees can be contacted via the non-emergency police number 101 or information can be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
