A WORCESTER-based DJ and producer hopes to keep music alive in the physical form with the release of his debut album.

In an ever increasingly digital age Shaun Williams opted to release his long-player, ironically titled Digital Communication, as a limited edition CD on Wednesday.

Even though a digital version will follow later in the year, the 28-year-old, who is originally from Malvern, was keen to offer fans something tangible.

“As a music lover I’m saddened that the physical aspect of owning music is almost dead. It was always my ambition to release an album and have my own physical CD, so I decided to bring this out on CD format before digital.”

His musical journey started following a very different path at an early age, with the punk scene more to his liking.

But his current electronic offerings can be traced all the way to the Balearic Islands as a holiday to Ibiza turned him on to the dance and club scene.

Shaun describes the record as uplifting electronic dance music with a large trance influence, taking inspiration from artists across the entire spectrum of music.

He picks out Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten and Above and Beyond as few names from the dance world in particular but says he isn’t keen to let that restrict his output.

“I love all music and I would never pin myself down to one genre - I am now experimenting with all different kinds of electronic music.”

To date Shaun has received Radio One airplay when Huw Stephens gave Give Me the Chance a spin and was chosen by BBC Introducing to perform a set at the Big Chill festival at Eastnor Castle’s deer park, near Ledbury, last year.

After a break from gigging his next live show is at the Metro in Worcester’s St Nicholas Street on Saturday, September 22.
