A WOMAN with no previous convictions told magistrates that she was ashamed after being caught drink-driving.

Nina Marlow, of Regiment Close, Norton, near Worcester, admitted driving with excess alcohol when she appeared before magistrates in Worcester.

Kate Price, prosecuting, said the former community care worker was stopped driving her Peugeot 106 by police in the city’s Norton Road and arrested after providing a positive roadside breath test.

A further test held at Worcester police station produced a reading of 54mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit is 35mcg.

Sarah Brady, defending, said: “My client would like to emphasise to the court how very ashamed she is of the behaviour which has brought her before the court for the first time in her life.

"It has been a very difficult experience for her.”

Mrs Brady said Marlow had developed a drink problem over the last few years which her arrest had brought to a head, but that she was embracing all available help.

The 48-year-old was a carer to people in their own homes, but is now claiming Jobseeker’s allowance. Magistrates fined Marlow £110, ordered her to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and court costs of £85.

She will be banned from driving for 12 months which could be reduced if she completes a drink-impaired drivers course.
