THERE were dramatic scenes in Ledbury town centre on Sunday after a man and woman were seriously injured in a stabbing incident at the Homend Garage.

Police attended a domestic incident at about 6.30pm and a 58-year-old man from Nottingham has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody, following hospital treatment.

A man and woman also suffered a number of stab wounds and were taking to a Birmingham hospital for emergency treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The scene was attended by a paramedic area support officer, a responder paramedic, an ambulance crew, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire with a doctor on board.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance crews and the doctor treated two patients, a man and a woman, who had both suffered serious injuries.

“Due to their conditions, both were airlifted to hospital in Birmingham for further emergency treatment.”

At least one air ambulance took off from Tesco’s car park.

Ledbury town councillor, Martin Eager, was driving down the Homend shortly after the incident, to find his way blocked by a police car.

He said: “The traffic had stopped and the police car was across the road. Police had blocked the Homend from the Orchard Lane junction to Knapp Lane.”

Mr Eager took several images of the scene on his mobile camera, as well as speaking to onlookers.

He said that one woman told him that one of the stab victims, the man, had staggered to the petrol station, after being stabbed in a nearby house.

Significant traffic disruption is expected this morning as a police cordone remains in place.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident, but witnesses can call the non-emergency number 101 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
