A MAN suffering psychosis grew seven cannabis plants in a bedroom but said the drugs were for personal use. Sean Bennett, aged 36, of Elkstone Close, Blackpole, Worcester, grew the plants in a cupboard in his home. He admitted producing class B cannabis when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester. Kate Price, prosecuting, said Bennett was arrested after a police search of his home on June 3 which revealed seven plants about four feet in height. Mrs Price said: “The cultivation was small-scale and for personal consumption.” Mark Lister, defending, said Bennett had a long history of using cannabis and suffered from psychosis. Mr Lister said: “He was concerned about the purchase of cannabis on the street so he decided, on a very small scale and for his own use, to grow some cannabis. “It is perhaps ironic that the matter came to the attention of police not because they were looking for drugs but because there were reports of concerns for his safety.” Magistrates fined him £110, ordered him to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs. They also ordered the drugs and equipment for growing the drugs to be destroyed.
