A WELL-DRILLED fire-fighting team have battled through to the national finals of trials aimed at testing their rescue skills.

The Droitwich and Worcester wholetime team, pictured, were victorious against other crews taking part in the breathing apparatus (breathing gear) challenge.

They beat teams from Worcester retained, Whitchurch and Bromyard retained, Redditch retained and a mixed group of officers – which came second.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the teams were tackling a house fire under controlled conditions where the report was of four people missing inside.

Each team was briefed and given half an hour to rescue the family and bring the blaze under control, all the while being assessed by observers.

The winning team will represent the fire service at the National BA Challenge finals at the Fire Service College in Moreton-on- Marsh later in the year.
