KEEN snappers can enter Worcester Cathedral’s first photographic competition.

The contest is for amateur photographers and can include pictures of the inside or outside of the magnificent cathedral.

“Aspects of Worcester Cathedral” will run until the end of July.

There will be two classes, one for adults and the other for under 16s.

Winners and runners -up will be announced on Monday, September 3.

The competition will culminate in an exhibition of the winning entries in the Dean’s Chapel of the Cathedral between Tuesday, September 4, and Thursday, September 13.

They will also be displayed on the Cathedral website and in your Worcester News.

The Very Reverend Peter Atkinson, Dean of Worcester, said “We want to encourage people to visit our lovely Cathedral and through this competition see aspects of the building that may not have been noticed before.

“Through these photographs we hope the wider public will also enjoy seeing the Cathedral through new eyes.”

The prizes – £70 for 1st place, 2nd prize £35, 3rd prize £20 in both classes and certificates of Merit for runners-up – will be presented during Heritage Open Day on Saturday, September 8.

Entry forms and rules are available from the Cathedral shop in the cloister or from worcestercathedral.co.uk.

The competition is free to children aged under 16 and £3 for adults, or £5 if using a tripod.

The competition’s judges are Susan MacLeod, the cathedral’s operational manager; Kate Platt, an enthusiast who enjoys all aspects of photography from pictorial, natural history, abstract and audio visual; and Rebekah Tolley, a film producer, award winning digital artist and photographer.
