MEMBERS of a Worcester church have been doing their bit for their community and the Take Pride campaign by collecting litter.

Perdiswell Community Church’s community action team carried out its first litter-pick, gathering two bags of general waste, one-and-a-half bags of tin and bottles for recycling and two bags of green waste after trimming back overgrown foliage.

They carried out the clean-up as part of Worcester City Council’s Take Pride campaign, launched in conjunction with your Worcester News.

Based at Perdiswell Primary School, in Bilford Road, the group now plans to meet once a month.

Church leader Gordon Robins said: “The idea behind it is we want to communicate God’s love to people. That comes in a concern for their spiritual state and we also want to convey that in practical acts of service in the community.”

City councillor for the St Stephen ward Neil Laurenson, who joined the team on their rounds, said: “As there were nine of us, we managed to cover a fairly large area in a short space of time. I’m grateful to members of Perdiswell Community Church for organising the litter pick and look forward to joining them on another one.”

All equipment was provided by the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, which was set up by Worcester Warriors’ chairman Cecil Duckworth in 1998.

The charity is dedicated to the conservation, protection and enhancement of the natural and built environments for the people of the county, as well as relieving poverty among those who are disadvantaged.

The campaign runs until Friday, July 27.
