TRIBUTES have poured in for a Worcester man who died after being hit by a train on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old has been named as Jamie Harding, from Ronkswood.

In a statement, his family said: “We would like to thank everyone for the messages, poems, cards and Facebook tributes following Jamie’s death. We are also very grateful for all the support we have received from family and friends.

“Jamie was a happy-go-lucky guy. When he smiled, it made your day. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.

“We would now ask that we can be left to grieve in private at this very difficult and sad time for us.”

As we reported on Thursday, Jamie’s body was discovered on the rail line near Lark Hill Road railway bridge, off London Road, just before 9am on Wednesday.

British Transport Police and West Mercia Police were called to the scene after a report at 8.54am by the driver of the 8.26am First Great Western Service from Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington.

Tributes were also paid to the former Nunnery Wood High School pupil by staff at the school and local people.

Headteacher Alun Williams said: “Jamie is fondly remembered by staff.

“He was a quiet and hard-working pupil, but also popular with a wide circle of friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jamie’s family at this very sad time.”

Emma Harding, from Ronkswood Community Centre, said: “Everyone knew him. Everyone is just shocked and devastated. It’s just so upsetting.”

A tribute page set up on Facebook on Wednesday night has already attracted a number of comments.

The tribute page, entitled RIP Jamie King Harding, already has 238 friends, most of whom have paid tribute to him.

Kia Jones said: “R.I.P jay, you will never be forgotten and will always be thought of, i hope your all looking down on us and giving us some luck, still cant believe your not here with us today, hope your happy at rest with your mum at last, all my love goes out to your family xxxxxxxx.”
